Eddie Bauer

Eddie Bauer's Memorial Tree Groves program is helping American Forests plant the inaugural memorial trees in New York City, Washington, DC/Virginia, and Pennsylvania in 2002 to honor the men, women, and children who lost their lives in the September 11 attack on the United States. With its pledge of $500,000, specialty retailer Eddie Bauer will support American Forests' Memorial Trees Campaign and plant thousands of trees - in remembrance of each victim of the assault.

Eddie Bauer is currently raising funds for the program by inviting customers and store associates to add $1 or more to their in-store, catalog, or online purchases. Visit www.eddiebauer.com.

IGA Stores

IGA Stores "Your Hometown Proud Supermarket", a leading national grocery chain with more than 1600 stores in 48 states is introducing the American Forests' Patriot Trees for America Campaign. IGA has made a commitment to help plant special Memorial Tree Groves to honor the victims, families, and heroes of 9/11 in communities served by participating stores. From April 27- May 10, cashiers at 1,282 IGA Stores nationwide are asking customers to make donations to American Forests’ Patriot Trees for America Campaign. A store must raise $675 for each 10-tree grove which includes individual tree markers indicating species and lineage, and a special granite marker reminding visitors why they were planted. Area students and teachers will be invited to help choose the town’s historic trees. Every tree that stores earn will be planted in the community – at a school, a public park or at a memorial.

American Forests will provide historic trees for planting – each the direct-offspring of a tree that witnessed history or shaded a famous person. Beginning in 1989, historic trees have been grown at American Forests’ Historic Tree Nursery in Jacksonville, FL. Trees such as the tulip poplars planted by George Washington, apple trees planted by John “Johnny Appleseed” Chapman, the honeylocust that shaded Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, are propagated and sold to support the organization’s work to restore environmentally damaged areas and habitats. Earth Day Network

Earth Day Network is a partner in American Forests' Trees Across America campaign to plant millions of new trees to honor America, its citizens, and the victims of September 11. American Forests and Earth Day Network have set a five year goal to plant 285,510,788 trees - one new tree for every American.

American Forests and Earth Day Network will provide environmental education materials to thousands of teachers and encourage them to take positive action for the environment by raising funds to plant memorial tree groves at their schools or neighborhoods. A granite marker customized for each school will identify the grove as a September 11th Memorial project.

Additionally, children will learn about American history because the trees they plant will by grown by American Forests' Historic Tree Nursery, which grows trees that have connections to famous people and historic events. Visit www.earthday.net.
